Dr. Mazella graduated from Cornell University and attained his medical education at George Washington University School of Medicine followed by a surgical residency at George Washington University Hospital. He served in the US Air Force for two years following his residency. At that time, he became a Diplomat of the American Board of Surgery. He practiced for many years in southern Maryland and in Virginia as a general surgeon. During his medical career he became interested in retriever field trial competition and owned 3 black Labrador field champions. He also owned Belmont Farm in Fauquier County, Virginia, where he raised cattle and Labrador retrievers. After 10 years of service as head of the Surgical Department at Southern Maryland Hospital Center, he went on to become Chief of Staff for two years, and then Vice President of Professional Services. He retired from active surgical practice in 2002, and became the owner and CEO of Farragut Medical and Travel Care.
